Diane's Legacy

Diane Steinbrueck’s gifts to landscape architecture in Texas yielded positive influences on the land, the clients she served, the visitors whom she never knew, and to the environment as a whole.  Her long career of design, mentoring and public service were an inspiration to all who knew and worked with her.  Our state depends on the acts of volunteerism that characterized her life on the various professional boards and committees on which she served.

In addition, her wit, contagious sense of humor, ability to find funny perspectives even  in the most gruesome of project meetings were her hallmark.  She helped many people learn to grin and solve problems simultaneously.  When others look back at a designer’s work as the sole measurement of their success, Diane’s contribution of fun personality, keen intuition, and just plain courtesy and determination is more important to her legacy.  That is why her fund has already inspired donations to make her career go much past the end of her life.

“Diane’s design work was an important product of her love of Central Texas.

It’s beautiful plant life, fascinating geology, intricate rock formations were all inspirations in her landscapes.

I was honored to work with her on the

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport where her place-making skills were memorable to thousands of Austin visitors.

"Diane had an acute sense of situational awareness of the people and natural environment around her. She utilized that sense to her advantage to create her beautiful and useful landscapes. She was one of the kindest and most creative people I have ever worked with.

"A true professional, Diane brought a commitment to fully collaborate with every member of the project team, providing design expertise and technical solutions. Diane was an integral member of the team when we completed Austin EMS Station #28, the first Gold LEED project in Texas. She was such a fun partner, always ready to laugh, and

I will miss her easy, playful presence.
